THE ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE GTE IS HERE

ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE GTE
Yesterday’s reveal of the rather pretty Aston Martin Vantage also gave the world this, the Vantage GTE. It’s headed to the World Endurance Championship in 2018, and it’s all very yellow and very shouty looking.

Aston Martin has stated that the previous Vantage GTE program gave them some 37 race wins, including a pair of 24 Hours of Le Mans class wins.

Like its road-going equally yellow cousin, the GTE boasts the AMG-derived twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 motor. It’s also fully race specced with many shiny racing parts such as bespoke Michelin tyres, and brakes and suspension from Alcon and Ohlins.

All of this V8 muscle produces over 530bhp and 516lb-ft of torque. All of which goes to the rear wheels via a six-speed Xtrac sequential gearbox along with a good old fashioned mechanical limited-slip differential.

A mass of lightweight components means that the GTE doesn’t have a whole lot of heft to carry around with a kerb weight of only 1,245kg which is nearly 300kg less than the road-going version.

The GTE model also bins the aero setup of the road car by adopting what can only be called ‘extreme aero.’ Massive air ducts adorn front bumper and bonnet. The massive rear spoiler looks more than capable of pushing the car into the tarmac at speed alongside the manic looking rear-diffuser all coming together to give the GTE some serious aero trickery credentials.

Somehow the GTE has some 8,000 miles of testing on the clock already, including a 30-hour test at Spain’s Navarra circuit. Which is all in preparation for the big one, the Le Mans 24-hour.
